Is it a fair statement to say that the religious right hates homosexuality, or maybe they just hate the sin and not the sinner? And of course any cartoon characters they suspect of being gay.
But for one moment, let's just praise the Lord and pass the anti-gay ammunition!! Like Sodom and Gomorrah and Leviticus (my personal favorite). But wait a minute; further examination of scripture yields some interesting passages, like this one:
"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and the needy."
News Flash; not every Christian believes the religious right's particular interpretation of Scripture is correct, especially Jesus Christ. These verses are actually in the Bible:
"I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother; you were very dear to me. You love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women"
I'd say that was a very close relationship, probably just about as close as Ruth and Naomi's.
But let's not see the forest for the trees and get so wrapped up in Leviticus or Paul that we lose the universal meaning of love in the Bible. And lets quit blaming gays for the divorce rate and AIDS. It's the Christian thing to do.
