"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson
"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."--Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 8-16-93
Do you think if Jesus came back to Earth today he'd want to hang out with the likes of moneygrubbing televangelists, or any other of those bunch of intolerant pious phonies who push the Prosperity gospel, whose God is Mammon?
To me, this isn't just a religious issue, it's an extremely political issue, when the Prosperity gospel claims it's sinful to be poor, and so many people seem to fall for this propaganda. Why are we not hearing more of the message of Christian compassion by taking seriously those political words Jesus speaks of Universal love and helping the poor and disadvantaged?
The Beautitudes
Matthew 5:3-12
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
It's not all that complicated to teach the message of compassion and let our voices be heard by speaking truth instead of sitting on the sidelines and letting the narrow, intolerant and greedy message of the Christian right prevail.

My Dirty Little Secret
Saturday, April 07, 2007 @ 10:19 PM
My particular dirty little secret isn't dirty at all; it's just a secret. A secret I keep in my great big magical closet filed under "not acceptable behavior". Something that society doesn't want talked about or seen out in the open. I'm speaking about my sexual desire for women that doesn't go along with my wife and mother image; or my religion.
But being a follower of Christ, this particular verse cries out to me:
"Do you still not perceive or understand? . . .
Do you have eyes, and fail to see? Do you have ears, and fail to hear? (Mark 8:17-18)
What does it mean to be a Christian? Have you ever noticed that being "born again" gives religious conservatives the right to brag about and flaunt their religion? They want their religion and their Ten Commandments hung in every courthouse and schoolroom in America. And if there is one thing they hate more than abortion, it's homosexuality.
But they refuse to listen to the message of Jesus. Jesus rallied against the rich, the oppression system of his time, divorce, moneygrubbing, and hypocrisy. But I guess maybe homosexuality, the greatest evil of our and his time, sort of slipped his mind?
But for now, I've let my secret out for way too long; it must go back into that deep dark closet along with all the other things I have in there; that being a parent doesn't mean giving up being a sexual and loving human being, and a big part of me that I've already sacrificed for society. Oh, did I mention those clothes that don't fit me anymore? I'm gonna have to clean out that closet one day . . . if society would only let me.

SpongeBob vs. Osama

Is it a fair statement to say that the religious right hates homosexuality, or maybe they just hate the sin and not the sinner? And of course any cartoon characters they suspect of being gay.
But for one moment, let's just praise the Lord and pass the anti-gay ammunition!! Like Sodom and Gomorrah and Leviticus (my personal favorite). But wait a minute; further examination of scripture yields some interesting passages, like this one:
"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and the needy."
News Flash; not every Christian believes the religious right's particular interpretation of Scripture is correct, especially Jesus Christ. These verses are actually in the Bible:
"I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother; you were very dear to me. You love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women"
I'd say that was a very close relationship, probably just about as close as Ruth and Naomi's.
But let's not see the forest for the trees and get so wrapped up in Leviticus or Paul that we lose the universal meaning of love in the Bible. And lets quit blaming gays for the divorce rate and AIDS. It's the Christian thing to do.
